What is the best way to paint white ceramic wall tiles in the kitchen without it looking cheesy and cheap?
I want the wall ceramic tiles to be a deep blue color but I don't want to remove the white tiles since it's too much work. I want an alternative way to change the color of the ugly white ceramic tiles that I have in the kitchen right now. Will painted tiles look like they've been painted? What about the tile grout? Will that be painted too?
First clean the tiles to make sure there is no mold, mildew,or dirt on the tiles. usually a mild mix of clorex and water will do. Go to Home Depot and purchase a primer by Zinsser called 1-2-3. This primer is designed to adhere to glossy surfaces. It will adhere to just about anything. Once the primer is completly dry, top coat with a preium paint using either semi-gloss or hi-gloss. If you choose to use a dark color you may want to ask the paint rep to tint the primer. Dark colors do not cover very well over pure white.
