Which tanning beds give you the best color?
I'm completely clueless when it comes to tanning salons. I used to go to the beach back in the day but never did the salon thing. I have a wedding in 2 months (I'm the maid of honor in a pastel dress) and I need a tan BADLY! Those airbrush machines look too orangie, I want to build up color gradually to a natural looking dark tan. I'm darker than fair tone but lighter than olive skin. I used to burn on the first sitting but then it would turn tan and get darker. I honestly have no clue if it would be better to do a more watt/less time bed or what! Help!
Most tanning places are going to have 3 grades of beds. The basic beds have less power but tanning in them for longer makes the tan deeper and last longer. The middle beds are a bit hotter and work a little more on the surface and you're in there for a shorter amount of time. In addition to the bed grades there are also regular beds and "Stand Up" beds. Obviously these are just... well think of a bathroom stall, they are that big of a room with bulbs all around and bars to hold on to.
What I did starting from scratch (pale):
- You should ALWAYS start in the lowest grade bed to see how you do. The very first time I was only in for 5 minutes but quickly realized my body would take to it better than I thought. DO NOT OVER DO IT THE FIRST TIME THERE!
- Anyway, the next couple times it was the basic bed for 10 minutes a piece and I started to get tan lines! (hey... I was excited)
- Then I went a few times in the medium bed. Although I got a little red the first time it quickly turned tan.
- Next, since I noticed some definate color I could also tell where I wasn't getting any color at all... on my sides (arm pit to hip). This is where the stand up beds rock!
- Started alternating between the standup bed and lay down medium beds. The stand up allows you to grab onto bars in front of you to lift your arms away from your body and get every square inch of skin the same sun. Since you are farther away from the bulbs in a stand up the intensity is less but it gets every part tan!
Anyway... sorry for the huge lengthy answer
Hope I helped anyway!
