Finishing seams on clear plastic model parts?
I'm building a model kit which has various laboratory bottles, vials and beakers made of clear plastic. Most of these consist of two halves leaving a seam down the side when glued together. While I know how to putty seams on regular plastic parts, I've never had to fuss with seams on clear plastic. Can anyone recommend tips on how to finish seams on clear parts, or at least make them less noticeable? Thanks!
Rather than use putty, just glue solidly. THEN sand with VERY fine sanding sticks to clean the seam and blend. You can get as fine as using toothpaste and a soft cloth.
THEN take your parts and DIP them into Future Floor Polish and hang in a dust free area to dry. "Future" is a terrific acrylic that gives a TERRIFIC shine to polystyrene plastic clear parts.
I've been repairing model aircraft windshields this way for decades.
GOOD LUCK
