How do you spike african-american style hair?

Pretty much I'm black and i want to spike my hair unlike most people who braid, dread, and twist their hair. I haven't the slightest clue how i would do that with my type of hair. Any ideas?

It's possible J-boog from b2k had spiked hair for a minute. It depends on how your hair is and what length it is. Look him up you might find a pic of what you want.
