Turbo Power

1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe has little power and shuts down after 5 minutes?
My 1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is having trouble moving under it's own power. It feels like it only has 20% of it's normal power. Once it hits 4,000 RPM it starts backfiring repededly. Then, after about 5 minutes, it cuts off and it won't start until the engine cools down. But at that point, it starts up just fine.
note: there is no exhaust system after the Turbo.
Most likely you have more than one problem. Ok, last problem first.
Statistically when a car dies after warming up, and cranks after cooling down, the coil has gone bad, and that's a cheap fix. Older coils can go bad, and just quit firing after they warm up. I usually just change it to see if that solves the problem.
The other is more complicated. The best outcome for you would be that you have bad plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor, and the coil too.
That way you are only looking at $50 in parts. Unfortunately the symptoms also indicate a possible jumped timing chain, now you are talking a $300 problem.
I would check out the ignition parts I mentioned first, and consider replacing them if they look suspect. If it barely helps at all, you are likely looking at a jumped timing chain.
