hot stamping and thermal transfer?
can somebody tell me what is the difference in-between hot-stamping and thermal transfer?
or, both are the same thing?
thanks.
Hot stamping is a process in which an engraved image, hot stamping die or type, is heated then forced down against a part with a marking foil sandwiched in between. The area where the die meets the part, is where the ink from the foil is left behind. Though this is a very simplified description of hot stamping, it is the basis of the process and where you need to start.
A thermal transfer printer is a printer which prints on paper (or some other material) by melting a coating of ribbon so that it stays glued to the material on which the print is applied. It contrasts with Direct Thermal printing where no ribbon is present in the process. Was invented by SATO corporation around the late 40's
