What Fighting Style Should I Use for MMA?
I'm looking to start trimming down my weight and buffing up a bit so I can get into UFC/MMA style fights. What style should I go for? I have no real formal training. I do like boxing, prefer fighting standing up, although due to my size I can hold my own very well on the ground. I am about 6'3'' and very heavy at the moment, hoping to trim down to around 250 or lower.
The style is MMA. It is a hybrid of the elements of many styles, not limited to the visible 5. These are
Thai Boxing
Judo
BJJ
Greco Roman
Western Boxing
I study San Soo, it has faired well in the UFC as well. But it has a hole in it as all things for this forum, being it is not usually taught with full resistance in training giving a false sense of security to it's practitioners.
You need also to learn combative not having to always lead to a kill. San Soo has so many doors that I believe that a skilled fighter can kill virtually anyone. But that is not acceptable in modern life as it was 2000 years ago, so we need also learn how to Fend off or Resistance and Escape.
So add San Soo to your MMA after you get the above 5 needed skills, Or use San Soo as your base as so many others have. Either way you need the above tools to win in MMA.
