When using the Guillotine-style trimmers to cut my dogs nails, do I stick the tip of the nail through the hole
if the tip of the nail can be seen on the other side of the hole that you stuck the nail through, will the trimmers just cut off what is all the way through the hole?
Yes, if you hold the trimmers correctly. The flat side should be facing the dog's foot with the cutting blade facing you so you can see where it lines up on the dogs nail.
However, if your dog has really long nails and they are very black and you can not see the "quick" then this may cause the dog a lot of pain. If you cut the quick, it will hurt a lot and the dog may bleed all over. do that even once and the dog will fight you from then on over getting the nails done.
If the nails are really long, you either have to take off small pieces ever week until you get them cut back to where you want them or use Drummel tool and grind the toe nail back slowly.
If you take it slow, you can avoid the quick. Make sure you do not grind too fast or too hard and make the nail hot. If it smokes as you are doing it, you are push too hard and going too fast.
