How is this even legal?!?
I work at a Regis hair salon (the type of salons you see located inside of Wal*Mart stores or in the mall). This company has hired 2 girls that are in their first year of Cosmetology. We were told that they will be working as interns.
These girls DO NOT notify clients that they are still in beauty school and DO NOT have a license. They both have their certificate of internship hanging up behind the front desk, but it's not posted at their station where it would be noticeable.
they do not do good jobs on the haircuts, i can tell that the customers are unsatisfied. our salon manager does nothing to enforce these girls to let the client know they are being put in the hands of a first year student.
I think it's wrong for these girls to work without a license and to not tell the client that they are interns.
My question is
Is this legal? (in the state of Virginia) and if not, what should I do about it?
In most States that is illegal. If nothing else it is unethical and the clients should be aware they are interns and unlicensed. Call your County's Board of Health and ask for an inspection. You can also check the State's Website under licensing. I know of NO profession where an intern may operate unsupervised.
