Split Ends

okay so my hair is kinda long, like mid to upper back length, and im getting about 3-4 inches cut off soon. that will make it like four or five inches below the top of my shoulders.
Right now i have a lot of split ends,and after i get my hair cut ill still ahve more because there are a lot of split ends of my broken pieces of ahir and my flyaways.
So, i heard a trick that if u take ur hair, put it in a pony and then twist it up, (like ur about to make a bun) and then cut off all the pieces that stick out, u will rid urself of those high up split ends.
Is this true? Does it work? Have u ever tried it? Will it make my hair look retarted?? Please help.

My hair was about the same lenght and I got it cut about the same too I had alot of splie ends as well, I've never heard that trick but I leave my hair adventures to the pros. But if you get layers it will help cut some of the other dead ends off. Talk to your stylist.
