Special Price

If a product has a "special price" printed on it, can the shop sell it at normal price?
went into the shop and a big bottle of coke has a label on it stating "85p part of multi pack, do not sell separate" But when i paid for it the guy charged me £1.50
Im not being tight by the way... was just wondering if they could do it?
The shopkeeper does not have to sell you anything. The contract is formed at the checkout so, if you don't agree a price, you don't buy. What you describe is not a contract issue but a consumer law issue. There are regulations covering misleading price indications, such as labelling at one price and selling at another .... but I'd be bluffing if I tried to pretend I remember it all. You can report a trader to the Trading Standards Department for misleading price indications.
The cola manufacturer would not be happy that the retailer had split a multi-pack and could, if it so chose, restrict his supply though the chances are, if it was a small shop, the owner bought his supplies though a third party cash & carry so the manufacturer has no direct come-back.
The options appear to be: pay the higher price; negotiate a lower price; report the shop or shop somewhere else.
