How to unclog my toilet when something solid (ceramic) is stuck?
I've broken a ceramic toothbrush holder (cup with holes on top for toothbrushes) and an oblong piece about 4" by 2" has been flushed down the toilet.
The toilet now flushes slowly and plunging it is very hard to do, only clearing the clog for a small while.
I live in the bottom flat of a rental house with clogs being my fault.
OUCH! your best bet is to get a reputable plumber to come out and snake it out if they can. It really depends on how far down it has gone. If they can't remove it that way you may have to remove the toilet to get to it or even remove some piping.
Removing and installing a toilet is not hard, look it up on any DIY site and then ask questions at the Hardware Store before you start.
If you have to call in a plumber call several explain the situation and ask for a quote first before any work is done. Several Companies will charge a call out fee just to come out and look, if they are a good company they will make that part of the billed time, not in addition to the amount of the bill.
