Why do sateen sheets lose their shine and silky smooth feel?
I have 3 sets of sateen sheets. One set was bought more than 2 years ago, has been washed dozens of times and still feel silky smooth even though the shine is nearly gone.
The other 2 sets of sateen sheets have been bought in the past week. After the initial wash, both feel as if they were flannel sheets.
Why is this and which sateen sheets will retain their shine and smooth feel? Where did you find your high quality, long lasting sateen?
Some sateen sheets are only calendared, (a process of pressing fabric between rollers or plates to smooth and glaze it), to produce the sheen but this disappears with washing. That's not genuine sateen.
Look for ones that are made from mercerized cotton, and has the sateen finish created through the weaving process, rather than through calendaring
