I washed my silk curtains-they went limp-any ideas?
they have lost their texture and sheen
Silk is one of those natural fibers that is delicate and requires special care to avoid damage. Thin, light weight and medium weight silk, like silk crepe de chine, can be handwashed in lukewarm water and mild detergent for delicates, like Woolite. Rinsing silk is extremely important to remove all of the suds and never wring or rub silk. It may take several rinses in cool water to remove all of the detergent residue. Once well rinsed, towel blot and lay flat to dry.
To restore texture and sheen, iron on the wrong side of the fabric with a warm iron. You may need to spray some sizing on the board to restore resilency.
