Is the fear the Skynet will become self -aware holding back AI technology?
Computers as they are known today, made up of copper, silver, silicon and plastic, simply cannot become self-aware. In order for that to have the slightest chance of happening, a computer would need to be made of brain cells, which have the capability to create new dynamic connections. To answer your question, no. None of the engineers I know who work on AI are worried that the applications they work on will become self-aware simply because it is not possible.
