how long will it take my back to heal with stiches? will my scars ever go away?
the other night, i slipped and fell on a ceramic pot causing me to need 14 stiches. soccer season is starting up on the 24th and i'm afriad i won't be healed in time. what can i do to make it heal fastest and safest? once it's healed is there a cream you would recommend to reduce the scarring. please, anything you know would be really, really appreacited.
The best thing you could do is follow the aftercare instructions you got for taking care of the site until the stitches are removed. Of couse you are going to scar some, you had a cut in your birthday suit that needed to be sewn close. The scar look rather scary at first, and will be red and slightly puffy for a while. You typically remove the sutures once the surface skin is healed, but the skin beneath may still need time to fully heal, and for the body to fully repair the area. You will have to ask the doctor about playing soccer when the season starts up. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to, since soccer isn't a contact sport exactly. Once the sutures come out, you have a choice of things you can use on the site. You can opt for a scar reduction cream like Mederma, or you can use vitamin E oil squeezed from a gel cap or from a bottle. The Mederma was designed to help with scar reduction, and it works best on new scars like yours. You will have to use it at least once a day for several months to get the best from it. No matter what, it's not a miracle eraser. Nothing is. You will always have a fine linear scar, no matter what you do. It will be red for a while, perhaps several months. Gradually it will fade away to skin color, possibly a very fine silvery line that nobody is going to pay attention to except you. In the meantime, follow the directions the doctor gave you to the letter, and you will heal the best. Don't go putting potions and such on it until your stitches are out.
