How would you rate the Public-Defender system in the U.S.?
Do you think indigent people have a shot at justice equal to that of rich people who can afford to hire their own lawyers?

There is no single system in the u.s. There are hundreds of independent public defender offices. Some are great and some are not. The best trial lawyers I know are public defenders. They are notoriously bad at holding your hand and telling you that they are great and that prosecutors and judges are all stupid. Instead, they tend to give honest and frank advice and leave the blowing smoke to the private bar. However, they practically live in the courtroom and do the job very well. Some others are complete dump trucks, just as they are in the private sector.
