Question about hair coloring and leave in treatments?
I've been using the Loreal EverStrong reconstruct system.. the shampoo, conditioner, and overnight treatment. I want to color my hair tomorrow and I washed my hair today in preperation. My question is will the overnight treatment mess with the hair dye? I know you're not supposed to use gels or hair products in your hair before coloring, just shampoo and condition it.. to my knowledge, the overnight treatment is just a conditioner kind of thing. Could it possibly leave any build up or anything on my hair that will mess with the hair dye?
If you'll notice, using shampoo only dries out your hair but when you wash it with conditioner after, your hair suddenly becomes smoother. That's because shampoo opens up the pores of your hair, while conditioner smooths them out after. That's why salons don't advise their clients to condition their hair before hair coloring or any other chemical-based procedures. Your hair needs to be porous so the color can penetrate easily and get the proper results. After the hair coloring procedure, that's the time your hair dresser will use conditioner on your hair. It's like locking in the color in your strands.
If you already washed your hair with conditioner before going to the salon, tell them that you did so they can wash your hair again with shampoo only.
Add: Not all hair styling products can interfere coloring procedures. As long as they're not oil-based and doesn't have conditioning/coating agents, it's alright.
