Protect Conditioner

what should be put in blonde hair to protect it from the sun and pool water?
I have blonde highlights in my hair. I love to go in the pool. should I put some kind of conditioner to protect it before I go in the pool? I would hate to have it start to look yellow and brassy. HELP!
a water cap or a bathing cap should be put on the head so no hair gets in the filter and it does not ruin the hair
