How to keep naturally wavy hair straight?
I often straighten my hair with a straightening iron I bought at Sephora, so I know it's professional-quality. However, it just won't stay straight throughout the day. I've tried serums, balms, mousse, blow drying; none of it works! Anyone else with this problem?? Thanks!
I used to have that problem. You've just got to use the right process.
Here's what I do:
1) Shampoo and Condition with straightening/smoothing products (eg: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Shampoo and Daily Treatment)
2. Squeeze out excess moisture of hair and blot gently with towel (do not rub)
3. Mix small equal parts shine/smoothing serum in your hands with a styling cream (eg: Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Serum and Jonathon Create Weightless Smooth). Distribute evenly through hair avoiding roots.
4. Blow dry hair using fingers only. Point the nozzle downwards. Dry until just slightly damp.
5. Section out hair with clips and blow dry each section with a large round boar brustle brush, pulling hair taut.
6. Go over hair with a flat paddle boar bristle brush and blow dryer.
8. Roll 2 inch sections of hair around medium velcro rollers. Let set for 5 - 10 mins.
9. Unroll hair. Spritz hair with thermal proctectant (I love Sally Beauty Supply "Beyond the Zone Turn up the Heat Protection Spray)
10. Clip hair into sections again and slowly run flat iron over small sections of hair, going over it twice until whole head is complete.
It could be the humidity that makes your hair turn wavy so its best to use an anti-humectant pomades. Like Avedas.
I know its a long process and calls for lots of product but you did say you wanted straight hair. Anyway you can go a few days without washing your hair. Just quickly smooth your hair with the flat iron each day you arent restyling.
