Is there a way to get the starter out of my 91' Dodge Daytona Shelby without pulling the motor?
I have a 1991 Dodge Daytona Shelby, 2.5 Turbo, 5-speed, with all of the bells and whistles. The car has 225,000 miles on it, and now the starter has gone kaputski. I brought the car to a mechanic friend of mine who got the car up on the lift and attempted to remove the starter. After a day of trying, he was unsuccessful at removing it, lost patience and advised me to junk the car. I have owned the car since '95 and I really love the Daytona too much to scrap it, and I have even bought some parts to preserve and restore it. The quarters are in need of patching, but I had the rockers, lower firewall, and front floors all repaired and they are in good shape. The interior is mint also. I would get someone to pull the motor, but then while it was out I would want to replace the clutch and freshen up the motor which would get more and more expensive. Is there a proceedure for removing the starters on these cars without pulling the motor out? Thank you.
easy way is to lift the engine up with a hoist,loosen the mounts and raise it a few inches it will come out,its not fun though,i bought one of those a while back their not fun to work on ,the reason bought this one the starter and alternator was bad on it,i gave 300 for it,it runs and drives now,not good but it runs,you can get it off,but its not any fun,put a new one on it not a rebuilt one,good luck
