Pros/Cons of joing a fraternity?
I am thinking of possibly joining a frat next semester. This is currently my 2nd semester in college but I need to expand my networking and meet new people for the future. I tend to come off shy, quiet to people I don't know so I have some social skills that I need to work on so I think by putting myself out there and joining of a frat, I could improve that. I am looking at the Asian interest frats like Lambda Phi Epsilon, Gamma Beta, Omega Phi Gamma, etc. Problem is I am a biology major so I will probably have to take O.Chem and Genetics next semester, but also thinking of changing to Chem Engineering major which will require me to take O.Chem as well and University Physics I. I dont want my grades to be affected by the pledging process. Is it worth it to join a frat? At the very least I will probably go to the rush events to meet and greet.

Orgo AND genetics the same semester? same year?? taking them in separate years is hell enough- but it depends on the frat scene at your school. If they're just party animals, it will not be worth it. But generally, it seems that the frat-for-networking thing might be a thing of the past anyways. Your Biology major cohorts are your frat, because those will be your future colleagues after graduation.
get good grades in orgo and gen, go to the mixers to meet people, have fun, but don't feel that you have to pledge to make connections- it is possible to meet people and make connections without a frat
