True/False If you obtain a patent, you are permitted to practice your invention?
We had a short presentation on patent law and we have a quiz on it. I thought I remember him saying that a patent only gives you the right to exclude others from making, using, or selling. But wouldn't a patent permit you to practice it as well? Is this question above true or false?
Of course you are, provided it doesn't involve any illegal activity. You can patent a new explosive, for instance, but that wouldn't allow you to use it to blow things up.
A patent makes you the SOLE person with the right to control manufacture, sale, or use of your invention. You can use it or not, but you do have the right to bar others from using it.
