Pack Sheer Volume
Is there an advantage to a Magic: The Gathering Fat Pack versus buying a booster box?

I know it's obvious a booster box is better bang for the buck if you're going for sheer volume, but are the boosters in a fat pack better for getting mythic rares and better cards?

So, would it be better to get three fat packs or one booster box?

As you have stated a booster box has many more cards than a fat pack. That being said, that is about the only reason why you should buy a booster box. If you want more cards for less money, go with a booster box.

The advantages of buying a fat pack are the box it comes in (great for storing cards), the life die (this is the only way to buy one), the card catalog (which lists all cards in that set), a how-to-play guide (good for teaching people how to play), and the excerpt from a novel that they usually put in. Also, a fat pack comes with 40 basic lands (8 of each kind), whereas a booster box does not have a minimum quantity of lands, as it is made of nothing but boosters.

It really depends on how many cards you want to get from that set.
