Is Banfield a good choice for a vet?
I just got a new puppy and I am thinking about doing one of their Optimum Wellness plans. It seems like a good deal, but I want to make sure my dog will receive good health care. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with them?
I do not recommend Banfield at all. I do not agree with their practices and would advise you to steer clear.
Here are my top three reasons:
1) MANY misdiagnosis have come out of there.
2) They vaccinate dogs for absurd things that are NOT recommended (ex. Giardia vax) WITHOUT asking permission from the owner.
3) The vets that work there work at a chain for a reason....
NOTE: To the person below me... the FDA warns against giving the Giardia vaccine. It is not recommended at all. I would NEVER vaccinate my dogs against Giardia. Do your research first

Also, your dog must have been suffering from Giardia for quite some time to become so advanced where your dog almost died. Either you should have brought your dog to the vet sooner or your vet should have done a Giardia Snap Test much earlier, especially since you admitted to living in an area where it is prominent.
