Olivia Garden

In the V.C Andrews book Garden of Shadows? (last dollengener book)?
At the very end when Corrine comes to Foxworth Hall in the middle of the night, and her "mother" lets her in, obviously Olivia was hiding the children from Malcom, as we learned in Flowers. But I was confused because, Olivia had mentioned that Malcom was too "soft" and he would fall in love with Corrines children, so did that mean Olivia was the one who actually wanted the children locked away, and not Malcom?? And Olivia was very likable in this book, it made me sad she wasnt a true grandmother to the children. =[
lol
I think that may have been a very real fear of Olivia's. She knew that Corinne was a favorite of Malcolm's and Olivia feared that over time Corinne would be able to sweet talk him into accepting her children back into the family fold (and fortune). Also, if I recall correctly Olivia herself had to fight down tender feelings at the sight of the four children. I think she feared that she herself would weaken and give up her religious and moral beliefs regarding the children's existence. She believed that they should have never been born and she was afraid that if she relented and let them live downstairs then she would be compromising her beliefs so the safest bet, for her, was to lock them all in the attic where she hoped they would never be seen by anyone else ever again.
