Now rate the dragon drawing!?
I'm still reaaaaaaaaaaly bored, why's this catagory allways so dead?...
hn, anway: I gots a drawing of a dragon for you all to rate!
http://swimmengal.deviantart.com/art/dragon-94640813
so I'm just gonna see what people think!
I know the pens bled a lot D: I should have gotten smaller nibs to go with them...
Done with COPICS markers.
I'm aware the shadeing is very horrid XD So, please jsut rate the drawing- not the color job.
There's two reasons I don't use copics anymore:
1. they cost to much, and I draw far to much. I can't keep up with the ink refils, and kept refilling the wrong things. Grey does not go with tthe colorless blender! Purple does not go with brown.... *sigh*
and
2. because I'm not so happy with how anything turned out. I like digital coloring SO much more!
and yes, I'm basicly just posting these bcause I've got nothing better to do... XD
so very dead....
Less than competent. If that black mass in the middle is supposed to be the dragon's abdomen, we need to see some sort of articulation. In addition, the scales are flat. There is no real feeling of form.
Back in ye Olde Days there were a couple of really good fan artists who made this style work. Alicia Austen got the chance to illustrate Henry Kuttner's The Mask of Circe for Ace books, and it's worth picking up for that. But it's also Kuttner's writing at his best. Try ABEBooks.com and see if you can find a copy. Unfortunately Terry Austin went to work for Marvel Comics where he adopted a "realistic" style which doesn't work as well at all. Also look around for anything by Tim Kirk.
The Old Masters used to take their drawings and use white tempera to apply highlights. I wish you would -- cover the parts of the image nearest us and try to introduce some articulation into the belly. Come to think of it it's worth commenting that you can do a lot of pictures cheap with tempera paint. I suggest you might try getting some, if only because working with materials like that will help you think about your digital coloring better.
