What is a good quality starter acoustic electric guitar?
Ok, I went to the guitar center, and I liked an Ovation and a Takamine cedar guitar (both acoustic). My cousin said that he liked the Ovation (although many say its sounds tin like and slips).
On the other hand, my friend says she hates Ovations (she plays a $100 Mitchell and really likes it)....
What say you? Any other brands?
You should start learning how to play on an acoustic guitar, not an electric.
An acoustic guitar takes a bit more work, so it will strengthen your fingers, and give you firmer technique than if you learned on an electric. When you switch to an electric (in a year or two), your playing will be more solid that someone who started on an electric.
The brand doesn't matter much when you're starting out. Get a cheap one so if you decide you're not going to continue, you haven't invested that much money.
Look for two things in a starter guitar:
1. Good action: The strings should be as close to the fingerboard as possible.
2. Clear notes. There shouldn't be any buzzing or notes that are muffled because the strings are too close to the fingerboard, and are hitting a fret they shouldn't.
