Post root canal gum pain -- is that normal?
I've had two root canals done on #6 & #7 upper-right molars -- been a 2 months procedure, and both were finally closed this Friday (whew!). Crowns coming up.
However, I keep having this ... uh uneasy throbbing feeling (not pain) above #6 , and the throbbing is really something I felt strongly when running today (goes along with the pulse I guess). No pain chewing though. When I massage the gum through my chick below the nostril I do feel a slight to moderate pain in the gum. Just how normal is that? I'm worried it might be a failing, and though the dentist said the control x-ray was fine after filling them both with CaO2 (was it) and Gutta-percha the last thing I want is an abscess going on... If the feeling doesn't go away within a couple of days I guess it's dentist time again. Still, how normal is that in the meantime...? Thanks!!
I've had a lot of root canals done before, and even after months, sometimes they do that. If you had an abcess, you would know it, you would be in extreme pain, and you would look like a chipmunk. It's just your gums adjusting to the changes. Mouths are really sensitive to dental work, and root canals can take a while to adjust to. It will go away with time.
