Old Man trying new toy. I have a I POD and when I first got it I put songs on?

Now I want to add and get rid of old my brain doesn't remember and try to get apple to help YEA. I went to I tunes put in new songs but the I pod thing is not there that you are suppose to use ???It shows play list party shuffle and on top radio pod cast and that stuff. Do I have to install and reinstall Tunes will I loose music///HELP A POOR OLD MAN no computer words plain English

Is it that your iTunes isn't finding your iPod? If you're not able to see your iPod in the left panel of your iTunes screen, you can do a few things to try to find it again. While your iPod is plugged into your computer, open iTunes. iTunes may automatically detect a software update necessary for your iPod. If not, try updating your version of iTunes and the iPod's firmware with the latest version from Apple's website. If that doesn't work, try re-installing iTunes instead of updating. You can also try to plug your iPod into another port. Sometimes that works. And you can try to unplug unneccessary things from other USB ports which could be draining the ports power. If it still doesn't recognize it, maybe you could try plugging your iPod into another computer to see if it recognizes it so you can tell if it's the iPod or the iTunes that is having the problem. When you plug your iPod in, it should be showing up in the left panel of iTunes. If you see it listed there, click on it & look in the right hand panel & see what settings your iPod has. If you want it to automatically put the songs in your iTunes onto your iPod, you need to check the auto sync box & you need to make sure all of the songs you want on the iPod have a check mark in the box in front of them & all of the songs you want off of your iPod have the checkmark removed.
