Flat Iron vs. Chemical Straightening?

I have horrible unruly, curly hair. It looks pretty sometimes when I pull it back into a bun and let the curls rest on top of my head. And I've never had a problem with doing a quick curly updo.

In order to make it look decent from day to day I use GLOBS and globs of products (varying from Aveda, Paul Mitchell, Sebastian, KMS, and Pureology). This makes my curls somewhat "nice" looking if I leave my hair down, but usually throughout the day I find myself reapplying products!!

So, I've been straightening my hair a lot by blowdrying and flat ironing it every other day for almost a full year now. And my question to all of you is...what is more damaging?

Is it more damaging to flat iron all the time? (and still use products for straightening)?

Or is it more damaging to get your hair chemically straightened every 6 months and hardly use any products in your hair and no blowdrying / ironing heat?

You are doing more damage using the flat iron. Too much heat is damaging to your hair.

However, if you protect your hair using thermal dressing products prior to applying heat, you should be okay. If you want to keep your hair natural, there are products that you can use to stop the frizz.

But, if you decide to use the chemicals, you can texturize your hair. By texturizing, you will losen the curl, and have the option of going curly or straight. You can also purchase a relaxer that has more "natural" ingredients, but a relaxer is still a relaxer. There are plenty of relaxers that actually IMPROVE your hair. If you don't maintain a relaxer, that is how the majority of the damage occurs
