Japanese Book Dvd

Can you really benefit from martial arts DVDs and books?
I train in Japanese Ju-Jitsu at a school I really like and is affordable. I would really like to do something else to improve my stand up and striking (Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, etc) but I cannot afford additional classes and do not want to stop JJJ. Is it really worth trying to learn from DVDs and books? or shoud I just wait until I can afford additional classes.
If you think it is worth it feel free to suggest a book or DVD
To be clear I am not looking to become truly proficient in a new art though books and DVDs, but looking to see if the cost of the book and effort I put into it would be worth the minimal gains in my stand up.
Also I do not want to learn things the wrong way and correct a ton of bad habits when I am able to take additional classes.
`You may benefit from such research if you have the experience to do so. I recommend a couple of books to students to add to the understanding am trying to impart to them.
That said, you do indeed need an instructor also. For discipline, as mention rd, and for clarification and understanding. There is too much subtle information to be learnt from such, and you need someone to correct and direct your technique.
