What method would be the best?
I want to start dreadlocks, but I am having a problem figuring out which way I want to start them. I want to pick a method that doesn't require constant maintenance at the beginning, and can have my hair locked in a few months. I have thought about starting with braids, interlocks, comb coils/twists, or by back-combing. I don't know where to start.
I have thick curly hair, but it is knotty, and some places aren't as curly as others.
Also, I don't want the micro-locks look, or gigantic dreads, but the size or a fat pencil or a bigger.
Another thing, please, no negative comments about dreadlocks. It only shows how ignorant you are, also, it is a waste of both your time and mine.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
I always recommend backcombing : )
It definitely doesn't require a lot of maintenance after the initial backcombing ( I didn't do anything to mine.. just let them do their own thing! ) but they will be messy and a little wild before they really start to lock up and look like what most people recognize as dreadlocks. Everything I've ever read has been about the backcombing method, the others just didn't appeal to me; but here's the advice I give on starting dreads via backcombing:

I started mine about 5 months ago (I had decently thick, curly/wavy hair), they've still got a long way to go but I'm very happy with where they are right now

Hope that helps, sorry I can't tell you much about the other methods you mentioned : P but if there's anything else I can do for you feel free to use the link in my profile to email me : )
