What are the most powerful kinds of ceramic magnets I can get?
I need cylindrical ceramic magnets, no larger than an inch and a half in diameter and a half-inch thick for a major physics project.
I know magnets can be made out of different materials and that some can be extremely powerful. My project design requires they be as powerful as possible. Any suggestions? Thanks
Does it have to be ceramic? Ceramic magnets are pretty darn weak - a magnet that size won't give you more than a pound or two of force. I'd recommend neodymium magnets - they're the strongest available, and the standard for applications where strength is important.
Your dimensions are about the largest that you could get them, in any case. Neodymium magnets are extremely strong.
Try McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com - raw materials section) to see what sort of magnets are available.
