Start teaching at home or travel and teach?
I graduate from college in May 2011 with an English Education degree. I'm wondering whether I should go directly into teaching here at home or should I travel to a foreign country and teach for a year or two before starting a regular job here? My concern is that it might be easier to get a job here directly after college. I'm afraid it might be a little more difficult if I'm coming in after taking a few years off- or will the experience teaching and traveling be a resume booster?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
I graduate to teach this May. I have heard it go either way. So I guess it is preference of the employer. If you have a degree to teach in a foreign language most likely you will get a job; teachers are needed more in some countries than here, especially the way our economy is. Teaching here first wouldn't really matter, at least that's what I've heard from those planning to do it and the professors at my school. The schools where I live are actually fer-lowing teachers. So I say, if you have the chance to travel and see the world and do the job you want, GO FOR IT!! I think it would be easier
to get a job teaching in a foreign country than to get into a school you would love to teach in at home, then once you get that experience you would have an amazing addition to your resume when you do come home!
Again, this comes from opinion and from advice from teachers and students... Good luck! And I think it's great that you are planning ahead!
