What herbal teas are good for calming restless legs?
My Mom suffers from RLS and is up during the night with it. Does anyone know of any good herbal teas that help calm the legs? Because of her diet (HCG) she can not eat bananas so we're trying the herbal (caffeine free) route.
Folic Acid can possibly help with restless Leg Syndrome.
If you mum is going to take this then buy her ones that are sublingual Folic Acid so that way they will be better absorbed.
Good food sources of Folate are:
Green beans,
leek,
parsnip,
cabbage,
beetroot,
green peas,
spinach,
capsicum,
cauliflower,
chick peas,
oranges,
orange juice
oats,
wholegrain bread.
Be careful with Tonic Water because it can help Restless Legs but at the same time Quinine(in tonic water) has possibly some health risks so caution needs to be taken.

Hi Tink,
I wasn't suggesting that they shouldn't drink Tonic water but just with caution, like checking if any side effects occur etc:)
Another thing thing that your mum might want to get checked is levels of serum ferritin. It doesnt have to be outside of the reference range but just towards the low range to possibly have some involvement in RLS.
In my opinion, reference ranges are often too wide anyway & causes of disorders are sometimes missed because the persons lab results fall within the reference range-towards the ends but still not outside of it-so some doctors just then assume that that isn't the cause because the "numbers are right" if that makes sense.
Also magnesium, although serum magnesium tests are not the greatest.A better test to get is Magnesium Sublingual epithelial cell.
