Hair dressers...could you support yourself on your own after school?
I'm currently in college for psychology, but have loved hair and make up for a long time. Psychology is a long and expensive thing to do, although I plan on possibly doing it when I'm older, I'm considering dropping college down to part time then going to cosmeteology school this year so that I will be done in a year and hopefully have a real job! I plan to continue my degree part time while working doing that. I'm only worried about making ends meet. My boyfriend and I plan to move out to an apartment while I'm on cosmeteoloy school (he graduates next month for mechanical engineering however he hasn't gotten a job in that field yet, though he does have a job). He's not worried about it, but I'm worried we won't be able to afford to live, rent is 950 a month with all utlities covered, we just have to cover internet/cable and of course food ect. My question is will I be able to like in an apartment if I get a job straight out of beauty school?
I'm in cosmetology school right now, and being a cosmetology student
opens up many opportunities to work in a salon. If I were you I'd look for
a job as a receptionist/ assistant while you're in school, and when you
are finished with cosmetology school and get your cosmetologist license
either get hired on there and start training or go to a high end salon
(one that's more like a chain salon that you know gets good business).
I know many people who have been able to get paid right out of beauty school.
They have all let me know to make sure at first to get a job working at a salon
where you are payed on commission and hourly, and once you get regular clients
to go to a salon and rent your own booth.
I hope you found this helpful! If it's something you love I think that it's totally
worth the risk.
