How Do I Jump start My Spa Salon?
I have invested tons of money in a lavish spa/salon (hair, nails, massage, waxing, tanning, workout, etc), cosmetics, lingerie, wigs, top of the line equipment.
I'm situated just at the edge of town in a beautiful turn of the century house. Huge sign. Very visible. My business is in a lovely quaint town called Glenwood Georgia (near Vidalia).
I can't seem to attract stylists, massage therapists, or nail techs, and I have no customers.
We've done flyers, radio spots, and e-mail. My target customers are hospital employees, college students and staff, teachers, and local politicians.
Any suggestions on specials to attract customers.
I don't know why you are not attracting the stylists, etc whom you need but obviously you've got to have those people in place and motivated to stay with you before you can ever attract customers. Are other local salons offering their employees some incentive that you are not? Sounds like you are offering a lot of services and merchandise, is there the customer base to support all of that? You say you have already spent "tons of money", are you also prepared to spend what it takes to hire quality people to handle this? Have you priced your services to appeal to your target customers? Given that you have ..... you might single out special days for special groups. Say on Tuesday college students get free color on their toenails with a manicure or a fill. You might be surprised to find some will opt for a pedicure, which you might offer at a reduced price. On Wednesday hospital employees who buy a cut get a free scalp massage with their shampoo. It opens the opportunity for the shampoo girl to suggest how good a facial or body massage feels .... more sales opps. In other words try to make your special be unique to the needs of the group it is offered to and at the same time use it to suggest other services. You might try a mother/daughter special where with a regular priced mani or fill the daughter gets her nails painted free. It wouldn't cost you much and you know that little girl is going to beg to come back when her mother needs another fill. I'm sure you can come up with lots of little things that you can do to make your customer feel pampered ... bring her coffee or iced tea, give her a hand massage to demonstrate a lotion in your cosmetic line. Have you tried publishing some of your prices? You may feel that you have created a beautiful inviting setting but someone else may perceive it as intimidating. I don't know if any of this will help. All of my experience is on the receiving end so I thought I would throw out some ideas that would appeal to me. Your place sounds charming, I wish you luck.
