How can I make my hair really big besides ratting it?
I usually tease/backcomb/rat my hair to make it big, but I would like lots and lots of volume, and ratting my hair doesn't make it big enough. What are some other ways I can add volume to my hair? I want my hair to be really unnaturally large.
Use soup cans as setting rollers to "set" your hair style...The bigger the can, the bigger the curl. And make sure the hair is absolutely dry before taking them out.
For setting solution you can use Paul Mitchell Styling Lotion or for curls that are REALLY stiff and hold their shape once the soup cans are taken down, use watered-down egg whites. Seriously. Then before brushing through the curls, spray them with a really good holding hairspray that is humidity resistant. Avoid brushing too much or you'll just brush the curl right out again.
If your just looking for big root lift, just work super hold hairspray into the roots of your hair while it's still damp and then blow drying your roots while holding your head upside down. It's easy once you get used to it. Or you can buy a diffuser for the end of your blowdryer (or just put a sock over the end of it).
One final note: Once your hair is dry, always switch to the COLD air setting on your blow dryer & blow your hair with it for a minute or 2. That will lock the lift & curl into your hair by smoothing down the hair's cuticle, and it'll last longer through the day.
