How do I prepare for color guard?
I am joining color guard at my school and we have a 4 hour practice coming up. I have little-no experience and at lunch some of the girls taught me some flag moves. I got 3 of them down pretty well but I have a feeling that my arms will become very tired. What should i do to prepare so that they dont cramp up? And what should i eat before since this is a 4 hour practice?
First off i loved seeing this question because i went to this section to post a color guard question.
My first year was a bit painful, but heres the good news, they don't expect you to have as much upperbody strength and endurance for guard,
But that does come with time , commitement and practice with the team!
Do a couple plank holds each night, thats like push up position but your holding yourself up on your arms. hold for 15 seconds add a couple seconds or repitions everynight.Trust me, you'll notice you're arm strength increase and your arms will cramp less easily.
4 hour practices get tiring, especially as band camp approaches,
get lots of ice water to bring, eat bananas and fruits, and alot of breads, or carbs like noodles to give you energy.
Have a fabulous time.
