How can I fix brown patches(dead grass) caused by my dog over the Winter in my front yard?
I am a renter and strive to be a good tenant and I'm aware that the patches looks awful. I don't want to offer to my landlord to pay because I don't know what the cost would be and I'm on a budget.....I'd rather try to imrove it myself. Any suggestions, sure tricks?
Cut round the patches with a spade and remove the dead turf, making straight rectangular edges to the excavations. Get new turfs from the garden centre. They will each be about 4ft 6in by 2ft, and will cost around £3.50 each, so work out how many you'll need to cut up and fill in the holes in the grass. Fork over the base of the holes, removing any stones, and firm down level with just below the lawn surface. Cut the turf to fit the holes. sprinkle loose soil round the edges - this will soon disappear and will seal the join with original grass. Water it all well, don't mow over it until you're sure it's well rooted in or you'll pull it all up again. (Gently tug the edge of the turf and if it's stuck down it won't lift - about a month.) You could seed the holes but this takes ages to grow and will be less successful.
And whatever you do, - KEEP THE DOG OFF THE GRASS!
