please help this ferret?
i dont know how to explain this but... my little 11 year old sister has a ferret. she says shes done the reasearch and says "ferrets cant be bathed to often or it strips their natural oils" so she is bathing the poor thing weekly and afterwords putting fredrik fekkai glossing cream on the poor thing. PLEASE help me with the wording to convince her this is wrong and can hurt the ferret!
Here are some different sources and information about ferrets that I found.
Dangers to ferrets:
1) Ferrets do not require frequent bathing, which may remove natural oils in the ferrets coat that prevent dry skin. However, most ferrets are not averse to water.
2) Bathing ferrets is a somewhat controversial topic, especially with regards to how often. The ferret's scent is partially due to the natural oils from the ferret's skin, so a bath may temporarily reduce the musky scent. However, because the bath strips the skin and fur of these oils, the bath actually stimulates an increase in the production of these skin oils, so the musky scent may actually become stronger for a couple of days after the bath.
Frequency
Because bathing tends to dry out the skin and coat, avoid bathing too frequently. I would suggest once a month as a maximum, but unless your ferret has gotten into something that needs to be washed off, a bath every 2-3 months is probably plenty.
Shampoo
You will need a gentle shampoo for your ferret. Your best bet is a shampoo made specifically for ferrets; there are several brands available. If you can't find a ferret shampoo, use one formulated for kittens or even a tearless baby shampoo.
3) Ferrets have oil sacks under their skin which emit a musky smell. Bathing a ferret too regularly will cause extra production of oils and will cause a yellowish tinge to their fur. Bathing should only be done about once a month to prevent excessive oils.
4) Responses of other ferret owners to the bathing question.

For further note:
Ferrets may have a fondness for sweets like raisins, bananas, peanut butter, and pieces of cereal. The high sugar content of such treats has been linked to ferret insulinoma and other diseases. Veterinarians recommend not feeding these foods to ferrets at all. Also, like many other carnivores, ferrets gradually lose the ability to digest lactose after they are weaned. As a result, lactose-free milk is to be preferred.
Ferret curiosity often exceeds common sense and ferrets are good at getting into holes in walls, doors, cupboards, or in or behind household appliances such as clothes dryers and dishwashers, where they can be injured or killed by drowning, electrical wiring, fans, and other household items. Many enjoy chewing items made of soft rubber, foam, or sponge, which present the risk of intestinal blockage and death if ingested. Serious and sometimes fatal injuries have resulted from ferrets chewing on electrical cords. Screen doors can be damaged by a ferret's claws, and dryer vents often become escape routes to the outdoors.
Recliners and fold-out sofas are a leading cause of accidental death in ferrets. Ferrets will often climb inside the springs and can be injured or killed once the chair is put into a reclined position.
When a ferret is outdoors, an owner must take additional care during mosquito and tick season, as ferrets are susceptible to the diseases carried by these parasites (such as Lyme).
