Edge Blade

What is the best way to remove the edge of a blade?
For WHATEVER reason I'm looking to take an inexpensive sword and remove the edge of the blade. NOT the blade itself. If I want to take the whole sword apart I can. I'm basically looking for the best way to dull a blade (be it sword or knife) without complealy destorying it.
Depends what you have to work with.
I have a full machine shop so I would put a fine,(400),belt on my belt sander and at 90 deg. lightly draw across breaking the edge.Follow up with a touch on the Beartex deburring wheel, and final with a hard felt buffing wheel charged with fine compound.
If I was stuck at home,I would use a sharpening stone, the flat side,at 90 deg. to the edge to create a small flat.
Follow up with 400 emery paper wrapped around the stone to work in a small radius, follow up with 600 emery and finer,1000 grit or so to polish the false edge to final.
the edge of the blade
