Dry Volumizing Gel

How do I make my hair.. poofier?
No matter what I do to my hair, it's ALWAYS really flat at the top and looks terrible (I think I have a weird shaped head, and when my hair just lies against it it looks bad..) My hair's about to my shoulders, it's straight, it has some layers in it... But I've tried volumizing shampoo, gel, spray, I've tried blow drying it upside down, or with a round brush, pulling it away from my head, but no matter what I do it always ends up flat :-[
Does anybody have any tips, or ideas that I could try, because I HATE it!
man this same thing happens to me.
try buying a curling iron with a huge barrel (i plan on buying one with christmas money) that gets super hot, and curling just under the very top layer of hair horrizontaly all over your head, ive seen it done on video on youtube, theres this one curling iron thats gold plated? and relitivly inexpensive that was used in the video and worked very well.. sorry, i forget the name of it atm. try looking for more videos?
