Dark Auburn

Is it possible to go from a light blonde to a dark auburn in one at-home dye job?
I recently got a role in my school play that requires a bright, dark, auburn-red hair color (Cherry Valance, the Outsiders) and currently my hair is light blonde. I'm afraid the lightness of my hair will only result in a bright orange. Do I have to dye my hair brown first? Thank you for trying to help and I apologize for my ignorance!
Try a color that has "ash" in it. That should help ortect you from getting an orange effect. But it really shouldn't be that drastic. If your hair is very blonde, then going auburn shouldn't be too much of a stretch. Try Nice 'n Easy hair dye. It's what I use, and it has built in highlights, it makes it look natural, and it's cheap! So, yeah I hope this helps, and I hope your hair turns out great!
