PLEASE READ THIS WILL HELP YOU...
Hiya- i have really long natural hair (almost to my belly button!) with layerS in it and i use curling irons every day so am sure i can give you some tips on getting it right. :)
Putting lots of moose and hairspray in can actually have the opposite effect and make the curls heavy and eventually they will fall out. To get great curls its all about preparing your hair before hand (which is a long process for me lol) Because your hair is very fine its important that you get a bit of body in to the hair before hand as this will not only help keep the curls in but it will also look a lot better then flat, curly hair.
Curling hair works better on 'day old' hair (basically not straight after you have washed your hair) as this will help keep the curls in. But if your hair gets greasy really quick its still okay to do it after you have just washed it but like i said the curls may not last as long. Anyways wash your hair with a really good shampoo and conditioner- i use either tony and guy protect it range or John Freida's collection or because your hair is fine a volumizing shampoo and conditioner may be best. Wash your hair right before you go to bed. I let my hair dry naturally whilst am sleeping as this- for me adds more volume then blowdrying but its up to you. But whilst your hair is still wet this is when you add all your products- not when its dry. I add moose first- but only to the roots to get volume adding it to the ends will add unnecessary weight. I then use John Fredia's frizz eze serum (around £8.00) and gently scrunch the hair adding more volume- i then go straight to bed making sure my head is not lying on my hair if you get what i mean. (more above me on the pillow)
The following day (i usually leave it a day but you may not) use your curling irons. I then use just one product and this is 'Tony& Guy protect it hair mist' (Around £8.00). Its really important that you protect the hair as curling irons can really damage the hair. The reason why you are not getting the results is because you are not leaving the curling irons in long enough- the longer you leave them the tighter the curl- the shorter the time you leave it the looser the curl. I Think you will be best off leaving it a little longer as the curls will drop a little giving you the result you want. Start at the nape of the neck working around, leaving the iron in for around 50 seconds. Let the curl loosely drop out off the curling iron- DO NOT TOUCH IT as this will make the curl drop out- dont even add hair spay until the curls have cooled. continue doing this until you have done it all- even then dont brush the curls as this will make them less defined and drop out. After add some hairspray to keep it in place. I really hope this helps you and have fun at the prom!
Hope This Helps x
