Hitachi 12v cordless drill charger and batteries?
After 5 years of working my Hitachi cordless drill I have started to get a problem. The charger overheats and the batteries are heating up more than they used to. charging time becomes less each time they are charged up and they are going flat very quickly. I know I have had my moneys worth out of the drill but if this is some simple problem to repair, I would prefer not to buy a new one.
Buy a new one you tight fisted git would not be the answer I'm after.
Thanks in advance
Your drills batteries are made to fail over time... after repeated chargings crystals form inside the batteries which inhibit conduction. Your charger runs longer and hotter because the pathways to the cells are no longer "fresh".
You can shock your old battery which will destroy the crystal formation temporarily, however after 5 years I suggest you buy a new one.
Make sure you only charge when you have to (repeated chargings reduce effective charges left in your battery). I think new batteries would be rated around 500 charge cycles. Consider going lithium ion for less "battery effect".
You could "Zap" the battery, but it is dangerous and should on ly be done by an experienced person with the proper equipment. However this idea does help when you go to goodwill and purchase used hitachi equipt cheaply, then zap it, and get another 50-100 charges.
