Cooking Hair

why is it that gorden ramsey and other tv chefs dont wear hair nets when cooking?
If you look in most UK restaurant/hotel kitchens, they don't wear hair nets - that tends to be in mass food production factories or catering in institutions like schools, factories and shops.
Gordon Ramsey has short hair anyway. A properly qualified chef (rather than cook) will wear a toque although it is the fashion now to wear small caps. Those with long hair, like Marco Pierre White, really should tie their hair back properly though.
Media will always portray people with their idea of what is going on. I find it interesting that the perception of Gordon Ramsey is that he is a foul, shouting bully, yet his staff stay with him for YEARS - not what bullied staff do. Yes, he swears, but then so do lots of people.
The kitchen is a very hot place and tempers do rise - husband once had a french chef who would chase people round with a meat cleaver ..... and he was serious!! brilliant chef though
Didn't that Australian presenter get a lot of publicity round the world?
EDIT: Don't you think TV audiences would find it a tad boring if half the programme was taken up watching people washing their hands? Have you ever watched Gordons Kitchen Nightmares, where he is going ballistic over the hygiene standards in kitchens? I think you will find most top chefs have impeccable kitchens.
There is only one chef I find does not follow the rules, he is constantly tasting food and putting his finger/spoon back in the mix after licking - now that is gross if it was actually in a restaurant kitchen, but suspect he would not be doing it there.
