help please?? dance team teacher.?

Ok so im teaching this dance team of 7, 4-6th grade girls, one being my little sister. All of them either look up to me as "the cool teenage sister of their best friend" or they are scared to dance infront of me. I want them to know that im serious about what were doing while still having fun with them also for some of the shy ones, whats a fun game or something we could do that involves dancing and bringing them out of their comfort zone?? We have already started working on a dance but i feel like the girls wont be giving their 100% best unless we get them out of their bubbles and dancing to their full potential. please someone just give some ideas for how to get them having a good time while at the same time dancing in front of everyone and coming out of their comfort zones.

Get them started with a fun and energetic warm-up. Choose a song they know and like, and keep the routine the same each week.

Kids love jumping (even teens). I've found a few jumps in the warm-up helps ease their stress. I do some across-the-floor movements with them, and sometimes I let them improvise. Having them get to know each other (ice breakers) will help too. They will feel comfortable with each other, and make sure theres no competition or fighting between them!

Some kids love to stay in the back of the class, so switch it up a few times during the class time. Have everyone be in the middle at some point of the dance, and give each student at least 1 positive comment per class. Remind them that class is the place to make mistakes. Sometimes I tell a story or two about what it was like for me. I think this has really helped my students too, they realize that anyone can be shy and overcome it.

They already look up to you, so just keep being friendly, positive, and energetic and they will come around in time. Everyone will open up at their own pace. I had some students who cried their eyes out in a corner on the first day of class. By the end of the year they were huge chatterboxes and giving me lots of hugs and smiles. You have an amazing opportunity here to help these shy girls build their confidence. I remind all my students that they are beautiful or handsome, talented, and have lots of potential. Good luck!
