Is algae bad in a betta fish tank?
I recently changed my water cleanser for my betta fish--before I was using water conditioner for fish generally, and now the one I'm using is supposed to be specifically for betta fish. I noticed though that the algae is growing on the walls much faster than before and that the tank looks cloudier much faster.
Are betta fish supposed to have algae on the walls of the tank? Or is it just that the conditoner I got is bad and I should go back to the old one?
If any fool ever tells you that your fish can live in dirty water kick him or her! Would you want to drink the water that your fish has been sitting in? I sure hope not. Don't make your betta sit in it, it's bad for them and the amount of problems that can come from bad water is insane.
As far as the algae goes you can get a small algae fish and let it go at it or clean your tank out all the way. Sometimes it's just a build up and if there is a lot of sunlight it will grow faster. The kind of conditioner they have just for bettas does not really work that well. I use Jungle Start Right and it works nice. It contains stress coat which will help your betta out and it will make him much happyer.
